We like to hear from community members who are curious about opportunities to serve on our Board of Directors. We need collaborative, strategic leaders on our team to help us accomplish our mission in the next few years, especially people who have experience with historic preservation, contracts, raising funds for a nonprofit, and overseeing a building project. Service on our Board can be for a period of 1 to 3 years.

We have opportunities right now for volunteer consultants, who can contribute flexibly for short periods, as needed. Serving this way helps you learn about our Board and decide if we’re a good fit for a longer term commitment as a Director. 

BOARD MEETINGS

The following are the dates for the RSCA Board of Director Meetings for the remainder of 2023. All meetings will start at 6:30 PM.  The location of the meetings will vary for the remainder of the year. Our Board meetings will also be available via Zoom. • Tuesday, February 13, 2024 - Annual Meeting

Expertise & Qualifications especially needed: 

• Attorney
• Architect
• Builder/ Contractor 
• Fundraising, grant-writing 
• Project management 
• Nonprofit or Business Executive Officer experience
• Philanthropy 
• Cultural competence, and respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion  Historic preservation knowledge or passion

We’ll need to: 

• build community relations and manage volunteers.
• raise funds to pay off our existing ~$80,000 loan and cover our administrative and operating costs.
• choose an organizational partner with an optimum site, and negotiate a long-term lease.
• collaborate with a partner on a $4-7 million fundraising plan. 
• contract with restoration experts.
• advise on the design and construction of a carousel pavilion.
• exhibit our carousel animals & band organs in the community, until the carousel is ready to operate again

Members are expected to reply to communications by email, text and phone, and to access documents in the cloud.   

Board members are asked to prepare for and attend meetings, listen and ask questions, take responsibility for specific assignments, and work collaboratively with individuals and groups. They contribute time, skills, and personal and financial resources in a generous way, according to circumstances. We value honest and friendly communication, principles of respect and inclusion, and seek to be sensitive to different views.
